Our Commitment to Copyright

Bookroco (accessible at https://bookroco.com) is dedicated to sharing books that we believe are in the public domain — works whose copyright has expired, been forfeited, or that were never eligible for copyright protection — along with our own original descriptions, summaries, and reading guides. We respect the intellectual property rights of others, and we expect our users to do the same.

While we make a good-faith effort to publish only public-domain works and our own original content, copyright status can be complex. A work may be in the public domain in one country but still protected in another, and certain elements — such as a specific translation, edition, introduction, annotation, cover design, or narration — may carry their own separate copyright even when the underlying text is free to use. If you are a copyright owner (or an agent acting on their behalf) and you believe that material on Bookroco infringes your copyright, this page explains how to notify us so we can review and, where appropriate, remove it.

We respond to clear and complete notices of alleged copyright infringement in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), 17 U.S.C. § 512.

How to File a Copyright (DMCA) Takedown Notice

If you believe your copyrighted work has been copied and made available on Bookroco in a way that constitutes copyright infringement, please send a written notice to our Designated Copyright Agent (contact details below). To be effective under the DMCA, your notice must include substantially all of the following (17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3)):

  1. Your signature. A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner, or a person authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work. A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed. If multiple works are involved, you may provide a representative list.
  3. Identification of the infringing material. A description of the material you claim is infringing, together with information reasonably sufficient to let us locate it on our Site — ideally the exact URL(s) of the page(s) in question.
  4. Your contact information. Information reasonably sufficient for us to contact you, such as your name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
  5. A good-faith statement. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  6. A statement of accuracy and authority, under penalty of perjury. A statement that the information in your notice is accurate, and — under penalty of perjury — that you are the copyright owner or are authorized to act on the owner's behalf.

Please send your notice to our Designated Agent:

Designated Copyright Agent — Bookroco
Email: contact@bookroco.com (Please include "DMCA Notice" in the subject line.)

A note before you send a formal notice: copyright status of older and public-domain works can be genuinely uncertain. If you simply want to raise a concern or ask a question about a work, you are welcome to email us first at contact@bookroco.com. We take these messages seriously and can often resolve issues quickly and informally. Please also consider whether the use may be permitted by law (for example, because the work is actually in the public domain, or under fair use) before filing — knowingly materially misrepresenting that material is infringing can expose you to liability under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), including damages and attorneys' fees.

What We Do When We Receive a Valid Notice

Upon receiving a notice that substantially complies with the DMCA requirements above, we will act expeditiously to remove or disable access to the material identified in the notice. Where appropriate, we will make a good-faith effort to notify the person who provided the material (if any) so that they may submit a counter-notification. We may also keep a record of notices we receive.

Because most content on Bookroco is published by us as believed-public-domain material rather than uploaded by third-party users, in many cases we will simply review the claim ourselves and remove the material if there is any legitimate doubt about its copyright status.

Counter-Notification

If you are a user who submitted content that was removed (or disabled) as a result of a DMCA notice, and you believe the removal was a mistake or misidentification, you may send us a counter-notification. To be effective under 17 U.S.C. § 512(g)(3), your counter-notification must include substantially the following:

  1. Your signature. A physical or electronic signature.
  2. Identification of the removed material. Identification of the material that was removed or disabled, and the location (URL) at which it appeared before it was removed.
  3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
  4. Your contact information — your name, address, and telephone number.
  5. A consent-to-jurisdiction statement — a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the U.S. Federal District Court for the judicial district in which your address is located (or, if your address is outside the United States, for any judicial district in which Bookroco may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who filed the original DMCA notice (or their agent).

Send counter-notifications to the same Designated Agent above. If we receive a valid counter-notification, we may restore the removed material no sooner than 10, and no later than 14, business days after receipt, unless our agent first receives notice that the original complainant has filed a court action seeking to restrain the allegedly infringing activity.

Repeat-Infringer Policy

In accordance with 17 U.S.C. § 512(i), Bookroco has adopted a policy of terminating, in appropriate circumstances, the access or accounts of users who are found to be repeat infringers of copyright. We may also remove any material and restrict access at our discretion, with or without notice.

Public-Domain Works — Good-Faith Claims Welcome

We believe strongly in the value of the public domain, and we work to publish only works we understand to be free of copyright. We also recognize we can make mistakes, and that reasonable people can disagree about the copyright status of a particular edition or work. If you believe a work we have labeled as public domain is in fact still protected by copyright — whether because of its status in your country, a copyrighted translation or edition, or any other reason — we genuinely want to hear from you. Please contact us at contact@bookroco.com, and we will review the work in good faith and remove or restrict it where warranted, even if a formal DMCA notice is not required.

Trademark and Other Concerns

This policy addresses copyright. If you have a concern about a trademark, privacy, or other non-copyright matter, please contact us at contact@bookroco.com and describe your concern.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this DMCA & Copyright Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will post the revised policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date above.
